My opinion on contract grading is I do like the idea. I find it more effective to have a class that isn’t so worried about their grade rather than just doing their best and getting the work done. The method that I find more appealing is the instructor’s power over the course requirements. I would much rather have a student who comes to every class, does all of their work and tries their hardest but maybe isn’t the best at what they do then a student who never comes to my classes, doesn’t do the course requirements but when they do they have fantastic work because that is not fair to a student who is trying their hardest to succeed in my class.

                In the past I’ve had so many writing professors who have all had different ways of grading but there is one professor I will never forget. It was my sophomore year at college and we had to write and 11-15 page paper about the book “The Lord of the Flies.” I read the entire book and wrote my essay and my professor gave me a D- because he didn’t agree with my opinions in the story. In this situation I think anyone that wrote an 11-15 page paper about this book should have at least gotten a B but to grade someone because you don’t agree with their opinion is completely wrong. I thought this was completely unfair and it made me realize what kind of teacher I want to be. I’ve been given a ton of feed back as a writer and it is usually positive. Writing is something that I love and could do every day. I love hearing feedback from my professors because I like to know what each professor is specifically looking for in my papers and I find it helpful to see what I am doing wrong.

                I would be completely ready to accept negative criticism on any papers that I write if the teacher has good reasons to back it up. I am not a perfect writer no one is, and I think hearing positive and negative criticism is extremely helpful to make me a better writer.

Hi! I'm Kayleigh Fishwick, I'm 20 years old and a junior at Rowan. My major is Education with a dual major in Writing Arts. My family and friends are extremely important to me. I've lived in a small town called Audubon my whole life and I love it there but I am in the process of buying a house with my boyfriend in Woodbury Heights. My nephew Jackson is two and he puts a smile on my face every day! He has taught me so much about life. I’m a Gleek and I love scary movies. My favorite food is sushi; I could eat it every day of the week. Believe it or not, I’m due to have a baby July 15, 2012. That would make me 15 weeks pregnant. I’m extremely excited and trying to prepare myself to be a mom. I can’t wait to graduate and be in charge of my own classroom. That’s really it about me, I’m looking forward to this class it seems like it’s going to be fun!
